Tally vs Typeform: which one to pick in 2026
Tally vs Typeform is mostly a question of volume versus polish. Tally gives away unlimited responses and charges for branding and team features; Typeform gives away 10 responses a month and charges for almost everything else. We read both vendors' pricing pages and help centres on 28 September 2026, and every number below comes from them.

Short answer
Pick Tally if you need a lot of responses on a small budget: its free plan has unlimited forms and submissions, logic, file uploads and Stripe payments. Pick Typeform if the one-question-at-a-time experience is the product and you can pay for it: the free plan caps at 10 responses a month, and 1,000 responses a month means the Plus plan at $79 billed monthly.
- Free responses: Tally unlimited (fair use), Typeform 10 a month across all forms.
- Removing branding: Tally Pro, $29 a month or $290 a year. Typeform Plus, $79 a month or $56 a month billed annually.
- Payments: Tally includes Stripe on Free with no Tally fee. Typeform needs a paid plan (Basic and up).
- At the cap, Typeform switches your forms to private mode until the month resets.
Tally vs Typeform at a glance
Read from each vendor's own pricing page and help centre on 28 September 2026, in USD. Typeform's help centre warns that it runs pricing experiments, so your account may show different figures.

Is Tally really free, and what's the catch?
Yes. Tally's free plan has no response cap, no form cap and no time limit, and it includes the features most tools charge for: conditional logic, calculations, answer piping, signatures, file uploads, Stripe payments, redirects, password protection and closing a form by date or count. Integrations with Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, Make and webhooks are on the free list too.
The catch is a fair use policy rather than a number on the pricing page. Tally's help centre gives the examples it treats as extensive usage: consistently collecting around 50,000 submissions a month, 100 GB of uploads a month or 500 GB stored in total, or 50,000 email notifications a month. Tally says occasional spikes are fine; if heavy use continues for three or four months running, it contacts you about a custom plan billed quarterly.
For almost everyone, that ceiling will never matter. What does matter is what Tally keeps for Pro, covered in the limitations section below.

What do you get on Typeform's free plan?
Typeform's free plan is a working demo. You get unlimited forms, logic with branching, scores and variables, URL parameters, multiple endings, embedding, exports and the main integrations, but only 10 responses a month, and that allowance is shared across every form in the account.
Several things you might assume are included are not: the payment question, file upload, knowledge-quiz mode, partial responses, your own logo and removing Typeform branding are all paid features. You can add them to a form and test them, but the form goes into trial mode and cannot be published until you upgrade or remove them.
When you hit the monthly limit, Typeform puts your forms into private mode, and respondents see a message that the form is closed. The forms reopen when the next month starts or when you upgrade. Typeform's help centre also notes that deleting responses does not give them back: a deleted response still counts toward that month.

How are Tally and Typeform different to build and to fill in?
The two tools start from different ideas of what a form is, and that matters more than any single feature.
Tally: a form that works like a document
You build a Tally form by typing, the way you would write a page in Notion, and insert question blocks as you go. Respondents see either a single page or a multi-page form split with page breaks. It is quick to build, easy to read, and feels like a well-designed web page rather than a presentation.
Typeform: one question at a time
Typeform's signature format shows one question per screen, with large type, transitions and keyboard shortcuts. It is the format people mean when they say conversational form, and Typeform has spent more than a decade polishing it. If the form is the first impression of your brand, for example a high-end lead form or an onboarding quiz, that polish is what you pay for.
Typeform also has a deeper paid catalogue: its pricing page lists video answers, Salesforce integration, multi-language forms and drop-off analytics on the higher tiers. Tally covers the common integrations well but is not trying to match that enterprise list.
Tally pro pricing vs Typeform: what you pay at each volume
Monthly billing, USD, cheapest plan that covers the volume. An illustration built from the published list prices on 28 September 2026, not a quote. Zunoform is included for reference.
| Responses per month | Tally | Typeform | Zunoform |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $0 | $0 (Free) | $0 (Free) |
| 100 | $0 | $39 (Basic) | $0 (Free) |
| 1,000 | $0 | $79 (Plus) | $14.99 (Pro) |
| 5,000 | $0 | $129 (Business) | $14.99 (Pro) |
| Same volumes without the vendor's branding | $29 (Pro) at any volume | $79 up to 1,000; $129 up to 10,000 | $14.99 up to 5,000; $24.99 up to 25,000 |
Typeform Basic can buy extra responses up to 750 a month; above that you move to Plus. Tally's annual Pro plan is $290 a year, which works out to about $24 a month. Zunoform Pro is $149.99 a year.

Tally forms limitations worth knowing before you commit
Tally's free plan is the most generous in the category, so its limitations are about control and polish, not volume.
Branding, domains and emails are Pro
Free forms carry Tally branding. Removing it, hosting forms on your own domain or subdomain, sending email notifications from your own domain and sending confirmation emails to respondents all sit on Pro. Free includes notification emails to yourself only.
Files are capped at 10 MB each
File uploads are free with no limit on the number of files, but each file can be at most 10 MB on the free plan. That rules out video and large design files until you upgrade.
No partial submissions or team workspaces on Free
Partial submissions, drop-off analytics, workspaces with invited team members and version history are Pro features. If several people need to edit forms, budget for Pro from the start.
No one-question-at-a-time format or native booking
Tally forms are pages, not a one-question-per-screen flow, and the free feature list has no appointment question with calendar sync. If you need either, you are looking at Typeform for the first or a second tool for the second.

Tally or Typeform: which should you choose?
By situation, including the one where neither is the right answer.
Free, high volume, simple look: Tally
Event sign-ups, waitlists, community surveys and internal requests. Unlimited responses with logic and uploads on Free is hard to beat, and payments are included if you sell something.
Brand-critical form with a budget: Typeform
A lead form on a paid campaign, a product quiz or an onboarding flow where the experience matters more than the cost per response. Plan for Plus at $79 a month (or $56 a month billed annually) to remove branding.
Taking money on day one with no budget: Tally
Stripe payments on the free plan with no fee added by Tally, only Stripe's own processing fees. Typeform needs at least Basic for the payment question.
More than 10 responses a month but under $39: not Typeform
Typeform's jump from 10 free responses to a $39 Basic plan with 100 responses leaves a gap. If that gap is you, use Tally or another tool with a larger free tier.
How to test both in 30 minutes
Both have free plans, so run the same form through each before you decide.
Write down the form you actually need
List the questions, which ones branch, whether you need uploads or payments, and your expected responses a month.
Build it in Tally
Type it out, add the logic, and publish. Note anything you had to skip or that needs Pro.
Build it in Typeform
Rebuild the same form. Note which features put the form into trial mode.
Fill in both on your phone
Time yourself. Check whether one question per screen helps or slows your audience.
Price your real volume
Use the table above for your monthly responses and branding needs, on monthly and annual billing.
Check the exit
Export the responses from both. Make sure the CSV has what you need if you switch later.
Where Zunoform fits (and where it doesn't)
Zunoform is a third option if neither tool fits cleanly. The same questions can run in three layouts: conversational (one question at a time, like Typeform), single page, or document (text and questions inline, closer to Tally). It has a native scheduler question that syncs with Google and Outlook calendars, and conditional logic, quiz scoring, hidden fields and file uploads on every plan. Pro is $14.99 a month for 5,000 responses and removes branding, which is cheaper than Tally Pro at $29 a month or Typeform Plus at $79.
Where it loses: the free plan is 500 responses a month, not unlimited like Tally's, and payments need Pro, while Tally includes them free. Typeform has a longer track record, more design polish and a much bigger integration catalogue. AI form generation is Business-only. If you need unlimited free responses, use Tally.
Questions people ask
Is Tally better than Typeform?
On price and free-plan generosity, yes: Tally gives unlimited responses, logic, uploads and payments for free, while Typeform's free plan stops at 10 responses a month. Typeform is better if you want the one-question-at-a-time experience with a decade of design polish and a larger enterprise integration list, and can pay $79 a month to remove its branding.
Is Tally completely free?
The free plan has no response or form cap and no time limit, subject to a fair use policy. Tally's examples of extensive use include consistently collecting around 50,000 submissions a month. Branding removal, custom domains, respondent emails, partial submissions, team workspaces and files over 10 MB need Pro, which is $29 a month or $290 a year.
How much is Tally Pro?
$29 a month billed monthly, or $290 a year, which is about $24 a month. The pricing page opens on the annual toggle, so $24 is the figure you see first. Business is $89 a month or $890 a year and adds data retention controls, email verification and longer version history. Checked 28 September 2026.
How many responses do you get on Typeform for free?
10 responses a month, shared across every form in the account. Unused responses do not carry over. When you reach the limit, your forms switch to private mode until the next month or until you upgrade, and deleting responses does not free up room. Basic at $39 a month raises the limit to 100.
Can Tally do one question at a time like Typeform?
Not in the same way. Tally builds single-page or multi-page forms; you can put one question on each page with page breaks, but it is not the same full-screen, keyboard-driven format Typeform is known for. If that format is the point of your form, test both with your audience before choosing.
Does Tally or Typeform charge a fee on payments?
Tally's help centre says it adds no fee on top of Stripe's standard pricing, and payments work on the free plan. Typeform's payment question needs a paid plan (Basic and up) and connects to Stripe or PayPal. In both cases the payment processor's own fees still apply.
What is the cheapest way to remove branding: Tally or Typeform?
Tally. Pro removes Tally branding for $29 a month or $290 a year with unlimited responses. On Typeform, branding removal starts at Plus, which is $79 a month or $56 a month billed annually, with 1,000 responses a month. Zunoform removes branding on Pro at $14.99 a month with 5,000 responses.
