Typeform vs Google Forms: which one fits your form?

Typeform vs Google Forms is really a question about what you are willing to pay for. Google Forms is free, familiar and good enough for most internal surveys; Typeform charges for a more designed, one-question-at-a-time experience and deeper logic. This comparison uses each vendor's own pricing and help pages, checked on 28 September 2026, and ends with a plain recommendation for each type of user.

Short answer

Pick Google Forms if you need a free form with no response cap for internal surveys, class quizzes or sign-ups, and a Google look is fine. Pick Typeform if the form faces customers or prospects, you want branded one-question-at-a-time design and richer logic, and you can pay from $28 a month for 100 responses. Typeform's free plan allows only 10 responses a month, so it is a trial, not a free alternative to Google Forms.

  • Price: Google Forms is free with a Google Account; Typeform paid plans run $28 to $91 a month billed annually.
  • Logic: Typeform has branching, calculations, scores and variables; Google Forms branches by section on multiple-choice and dropdown answers.
  • Design: Typeform shows one question per screen with full theming; Google Forms offers a header image, colors and fonts.
  • Data: Google Forms writes straight to Google Sheets; Typeform connects to more outside tools.

What's the main difference between Typeform and Google Forms?

They were built for different jobs. Google Forms is a utility inside Google Workspace: quick to make, free, tied to your Google Account and designed to drop answers into a spreadsheet. It shows questions on a scrolling page, split into sections if you want.

Typeform is a paid product built around the respondent's experience. Each question fills the screen, the form can match your brand closely, and logic can change what people see based on scores, calculations and earlier answers. Typeform sells that experience to marketing, research and HR teams, and prices it accordingly.

Most of the practical differences below follow from that split: cost, response limits, how far you can customize, and where your data ends up.

How much do Typeform and Google Forms cost?

Google Forms costs nothing with a personal Google Account and is included in every paid Google Workspace plan. There is no paid Google Forms tier to upgrade to; paying for Workspace mainly changes admin controls, storage and data-location options rather than what the form builder can do.

Typeform's core plans, from its pricing page: Basic is $39 a month or $28 a month billed annually ($336 a year) with 100 responses and one user; Plus is $79 or $56 annually with 1,000 responses and three users; Business is $129 or $91 annually with 10,000 responses and five users. Enterprise is custom-priced. Typeform's help centre notes it runs pricing experiments, so your account may show different numbers.

The feature most people want on a paid form tool often sits one tier higher than expected at Typeform: removing Typeform branding starts at Plus and a custom domain needs Enterprise. Payments arrive earlier, on Basic, but Basic's 100 responses a month limits how many orders a form can take.

Response limits: 10 a month vs no published cap

This is the biggest practical gap. Typeform's free plan collects 10 responses a month across all your forms, and every plan has a monthly allowance. When you reach it, your forms switch to private mode until the next month or an upgrade, so respondents see a closed form. Paid plans can buy add-ons or turn on auto-upgrade.

Google does not publish a response limit for Forms. The practical ceiling is the linked spreadsheet: Google Sheets supports up to 20 million cells per file, which is far beyond what a typical survey produces. For a free, always-on form such as an internal request form, Google Forms wins this category outright.

Which has better logic and branching?

Typeform, clearly. Its logic is available on every plan, including Free, and covers branching between individual questions, calculations, scores and custom variables, plus recall that pipes earlier answers into later questions. That makes price quotes, scored lead qualification and outcome quizzes possible without code. Multiple endings let different respondents finish on different screens.

Google Forms branches at the section level. According to Google's help centre, "go to section based on answer" works only on multiple-choice and dropdown questions, and you can also set which section follows each section. There are no calculations or variables, and no way to route on a number, a text answer or a combination of answers. For many internal forms that is enough; for anything that needs a score or a price, it is not.

Design and respondent experience: which looks better?

Typeform's one-question-at-a-time layout is its signature. Each question gets the whole screen, with images or video, and a theme that can carry your colors, fonts and background. It feels closer to a conversation than a document, which suits brand-facing forms such as lead capture, onboarding and customer feedback. Typeform branding stays until Plus.

Google Forms lets you customize the theme with a header image, a theme color, a background color and text styles for headers, questions and body text. Every Google Form still looks recognizably like one, and the Google footer cannot be removed. For colleagues, students or members who already trust the sender, that familiarity is not a problem and may even help.

Does the Typeform format produce higher completion rates? Typeform says so in its marketing, but we found no independent study comparing the two tools on the same form and audience. If completion matters, split-test your own form: send half your list each version and compare completion using our form conversion rate calculator.

Integrations: Google Sheets vs everything else

Google Forms' strongest integration is the one it ships with: responses flow into a Google Sheet in real time, and from there Apps Script or Workspace Marketplace add-ons can send emails, create documents or push data elsewhere. If your team already lives in Sheets, that is often all you need.

Typeform has native integrations with tools such as Google Sheets, Slack, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Airtable, Pipedrive, Calendly and Salesforce, a Zapier connection its pricing page describes as reaching more than 500 services, plus webhooks and a public API. Some integrations are paid-only, so check the Connect panel on your plan. For forms that feed a CRM or marketing tool directly, Typeform needs less glue code.

File uploads, payments and quizzes

File uploads: Google Forms includes them free, but respondents must sign in to a Google Account to answer the question, and files land in a Drive folder owned by the form creator. That rules them out for many public forms. Typeform's file upload works without an account but is a paid feature, with a 1 GB upload allowance listed for Basic.

Payments: Google Forms has no payment question; people link out to a separate checkout. Typeform's Stripe payment question starts on Basic at $28 a month billed annually, with PayPal as a separate integration; it isn't available on accounts hosted in Typeform's EU Data Center.

Quizzes: Google Forms has a proper quiz mode for free, with an answer key, point values and the option to release scores to respondents, which is why teachers use it so widely. Typeform supports scores on every plan and outcome quizzes through logic, while its knowledge quiz mode is paid.

Data ownership, privacy and GDPR

Both vendors act as your processor when you use their business terms, and in both cases you remain the controller responsible for telling respondents how their data will be used.

Typeform stores data on AWS with main servers in Virginia, USA. EU data hosting is offered on Enterprise and Growth Custom plans for new accounts only. Its data processing agreement applies to all plans without a separate signature. Our guide to whether Typeform is GDPR compliant covers the DPA, sub-processors and transfers in detail.

For Google Forms, the answer depends on the account. Google Workspace customers are covered by Google's Cloud Data Processing Addendum, which states that Google is a processor of customer personal data. Workspace data regions, which let admins keep covered data in the US or Europe, include Google Forms content and responses, but only on certain editions, starting with Business Standard. A form made with a personal Gmail account runs under Google's consumer terms rather than a processor agreement, so organizations collecting personal data should use a Workspace account.

Typeform or Google Forms: who should pick which?

Pick Google Forms if

The audience is internal or already trusts you: staff surveys, class quizzes, club sign-ups, event RSVPs. You want unlimited free responses, answers in a Google Sheet and graded quizzes. You do not need payments, branding control or scored logic.

Pick Typeform if

The form represents your brand to customers or prospects, you need logic with scores or calculations, and the budget covers at least Basic. Budget for Plus if the Typeform badge must go, and Business if you take payments.

Pick neither if

You need a free public form with file uploads from people without Google Accounts, or payments on more than 100 responses a month without paying $56 or more. Look at tools with generous free tiers such as Tally, which offers unlimited responses within fair use.

Where Zunoform fits (and where it doesn't)

Zunoform sits between the two. The free plan allows 500 responses a month with unlimited forms, conditional logic, quiz scoring, hidden fields and file uploads, and the same questions can run as a one-question-at-a-time conversational form, a single page or a document-style layout. Pro at $14.99 a month removes branding and takes payments through your own Stripe or PayPal account. Importers rebuild forms from Typeform or Google Forms.

It is not the right pick if you want unlimited free responses (Google Forms and Tally), if your organization runs on Google Workspace and wants everything inside it, or if you want Typeform's larger integration catalog and years of design polish.

Questions people ask

Is Typeform better than Google Forms?

For customer-facing forms that need branded design and scored or calculated logic, Typeform is more capable. For free internal surveys, quizzes and sign-ups, Google Forms is usually the better choice because it has no published response cap and costs nothing. Typeform's free plan allows only 10 responses a month.

Is Typeform free like Google Forms?

Not in the same way. Typeform has a free plan with unlimited forms and logic, but it collects only 10 responses a month across all forms. Google Forms is free with a Google Account and Google publishes no response limit. Typeform's paid plans start at $28 a month billed annually for 100 responses.

Can Google Forms show one question at a time like Typeform?

Only roughly. You can put each question in its own section so respondents click Next between them, but the page still looks like a Google Form, and branching works only on multiple-choice and dropdown answers. Typeform's one-question layout is its default, with full-screen questions and custom themes.

Can I import a Google Form into Typeform?

Yes. Typeform's help centre lists importing from Google Forms among the features on its free plan. Responses you have already collected stay in Google Forms and its linked sheet, so export them separately if you want everything in one place.

Which is more secure, Typeform or Google Forms?

Both encrypt data and publish security documentation. Typeform lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications. Google Workspace offers a Cloud Data Processing Addendum and data regions on higher editions. The bigger variable is your setup: who can access responses and whether you use a business account or a personal Gmail.

Can Typeform or Google Forms take payments?

Google Forms has no payment question, so people usually link to a separate checkout page. Typeform has a Stripe payment question on every paid plan from Basic ($28 a month billed annually, $39 monthly, 100 responses), except on accounts hosted in its EU Data Center.

Does Google Forms or Typeform have more integrations?

Typeform has more native integrations, including HubSpot, Mailchimp, Slack, Airtable and Salesforce, plus Zapier and webhooks. Google Forms has one deep native integration, Google Sheets, and extends through Apps Script and Workspace Marketplace add-ons.
