Onboarding Feedback template
Sent one week after signup, this survey catches new users while first impressions are still specific: how easy setup felt, whether the workspace is actually set up, which help resource did the real work, and what the first week should have explained better. A skip rule spares fully-set-up users the where-did-you-get-stuck question — they didn't, so it never appears.

The questions this template ships with — rename, reorder, or delete any of them in the builder.
When to use this template
- The day-7 email in a SaaS onboarding sequence, timed before trial-end pressure distorts the answers
- A product-led team deciding whether to invest in the in-app tour or the video tutorials — the which-resource-helped question answers it with data
- Post-migration check-ins after moving customers from a legacy product, where importing data is the multi-select option to watch
- A no-code tool measuring whether non-technical signups survive the first week without a support ticket
Tips to get more from it
- The skip rule keys off the setup question: users who answer all-set never see the where-did-you-get-stuck field. Its helper text — even I-couldn't-find-the-invite-button helps — is doing real work; blunt small answers beat polished vague ones.
- The what-should-week-one-explain-better multi-select is your onboarding backlog, pre-categorized (importing data, inviting the team, integrations, billing, advanced settings). It allows Other, and the write-ins are usually the sharpest items.
- The NPS field at the end needs a Pro plan ($14.99/mo) to publish; on free, remove it and the survey still works. If you keep it, note the score comes one week in — compare it against a later NPS, not against zero.
Questions people ask
When should I ask new users for onboarding feedback?
Around one week in. Earlier and they haven't hit the real friction yet; later and they've either churned silently or forgotten what confused them. This template's welcome screen is written for exactly that day-7 moment.
What questions reveal onboarding problems?
Whether setup got finished at all, where the user got stuck, and which resources they actually leaned on. Completion is the honest metric — a high ease rating with an unfinished setup means the hard part just hasn't been reached.
Is this survey free to send?
Yes, apart from the NPS field, which requires Pro to publish. Everything else — the rating, the skip logic, the multi-select — runs on the free plan's 500 responses a month.
