The best embedded form builders for websites in 2026

An embedded form builder hosts the form and gives you a snippet that puts it on your own site, inline or as a popup, slider or full page. The good ones resize to fit, pass your UTM parameters through, and load a small script. We checked nine tools on those points on 28 September 2026, measured their embed scripts, and included the WordPress-native plugins as the alternative to embedding at all.

The short answer

For most websites, Fillout is the best embedded form builder: four embed modes, auto-resizing, URL parameter inheritance and the lightest loader we measured among the hosted tools that resize, all on a free plan with 1,000 responses a month. Typeform has the most embed modes and a full SDK but costs more. Tally is the best free option with no submission cap. If your site runs WordPress and you want forms stored on your own server, use a native plugin such as WPForms or Gravity Forms instead of embedding.

  • Best all-round embed on a free plan: Fillout
  • Most embed modes and developer options: Typeform
  • Best free embed with unlimited submissions: Tally
  • Best official WordPress plugin among hosted tools: Jotform
  • Best for forms that must live inside WordPress: WPForms or Gravity Forms

What is an embedded form builder?

It is a hosted form tool whose forms you place on another website. You build the form in the vendor's editor, copy an embed code, and paste it into your page, site builder or CMS. The form runs inside an iframe served by the vendor, so responses and integrations stay on their side.

Most tools offer the same families of embed: inline (the form sits in the page), popup or modal (opens from a button), slider or side drawer (slides in from an edge), side tab or popover (a fixed button on every page), and full page (the form takes over the screen). A WordPress-native plugin is different: the form renders in your theme's HTML and entries are stored in your WordPress database.

How did we evaluate these tools?

We read each vendor's embed documentation and pricing page on 28 September 2026 and checked five things.

1. Embed methods: inline, popup, slider, side tab, full page, and whether there is a JavaScript API or SDK.

2. Auto-height: whether the inline embed grows and shrinks with the form, or you must set a fixed height and live with inner scrollbars.

3. URL parameter passthrough: whether the embed forwards the host page's query string (utm_source, a referral code) into hidden fields. A plain iframe cannot see the page URL, so this needs the vendor's script.

4. WordPress: whether there is an official plugin in the WordPress.org directory and when it was last updated.

5. Script weight: we downloaded each vendor's embed loader with curl and recorded its raw size and the bytes transferred with compression. It measures the loader only, not the form inside the iframe, so it is not a full page-speed test.

Embedded form builders compared

Checked on 28 September 2026. Script size is the vendor's embed loader, raw and compressed, measured the same day. Prices are USD per month on annual billing.

"Not stated" means we could not find it in the vendor's documentation. HubSpot's newer form editor loads a different, account-specific script that we could not measure without an account. WordPress install counts are the directory's rounded active-install figures.

Which embedded form builder is best for your website?

The order weighs all five criteria for a typical small-business site with some paid traffic and no developer on call.

1. Fillout: best all-round embed on a free plan

Fillout offers standard, popup, slider and full-screen embeds. Two attributes do the jobs that matter most: data-fillout-dynamic-resize grows the embed with the form, and data-fillout-inherit-parameters passes the host page's URL parameters into the form. Its loader was the lightest we measured among the tools that resize. There is also a React package, and the free plan allows 1,000 responses a month.

Cons: there is no WordPress plugin; you paste the code into an Embed or Custom HTML block. Some field types need at least 600px of height. Removing Fillout branding needs Pro at $40 a month.

2. Typeform: most embed modes and developer control

Typeform's Embed SDK covers inline, full page, popup, slider, popover and side tab, with callbacks for events such as submit. Options include autoResize for inline embeds, transitiveSearchParams to forward named host-page parameters, hidden fields, and lazy loading so the form only loads when a visitor scrolls to it.

Cons: resizing and parameter forwarding are opt-in, so the default snippet does neither. Its loader was the largest raw file we measured apart from HubSpot's. The free plan collects 10 responses a month, branding removal needs Plus at $56, and the Typeform plugin in the WordPress.org directory is closed.

3. Tally: best free embed with unlimited submissions

Tally embeds as a standard block, a popup or a full page, with dynamic height so the form fits without scrollbars. Parent-page URL parameters flow into hidden fields automatically for popups and full-page embeds. Embedding is free, and so are unlimited submissions within fair use.

Cons: for standard embeds, parameters only pass through when you use the JavaScript or HTML snippet, not a bare iframe. There is no slider or side tab, and custom domains and branding removal need Pro at $24 a month.

4. Jotform: best WordPress plugin among hosted tools

Jotform has the widest menu of embed codes: JavaScript (which adjusts its height automatically), iframe, full source code, lightbox, popup, a floating feedback button, a WordPress shortcode, and presets for more than 30 platforms. Its official WordPress plugin had more than 20,000 active installs and was updated in August 2026.

Cons: its documentation does not say that embeds forward the host page's URL parameters; lightbox embeds take prefill values you set in the code. The free Starter plan allows 5 forms and 100 submissions a month.

5. Zunoform: parameter passthrough and five overlay modes

Zunoform's single embed.js script handles inline, popup, slider (left or right, set width) and side-tab embeds, plus a full-page link and an email snippet that puts the first question into a newsletter. The JavaScript embed forwards the host page's query string to the form, so hidden fields catch utm_source or a referral code. You can fix values with data-params (they win over the page's), turn forwarding off with data-forward-params="false", and Zunoform's own zf_ parameters are never forwarded. The script is about 12 KB raw and 4 KB gzipped, and it exposes Zunoform.open(), close() and load() for custom triggers.

Cons: inline embeds do not auto-resize; you set a height and long forms scroll inside the frame. The plain iframe snippet forwards no parameters. There is no WordPress.org plugin, so you use a Custom HTML block. The free plan is 500 responses a month, branding removal needs Pro at $14.99, and a custom domain needs Business.

6. Paperform: best when the embed should look like the page

Paperform embeds inline, full screen or as a popup that any element on your page can open, with an iframe fallback for sites that block scripts. Adding prefill-inherit to the embed passes the host page's URL parameters in. Custom CSS is available from Pro at $49 a month.

Cons: the free plan is 30 submissions a month, branding is removable only on Business at $124, and its WordPress plugin was last updated in 2021. Its guide does not say inline embeds resize automatically.

7. HubSpot Forms: best if HubSpot is your CRM

HubSpot forms embed with a code snippet or a share link and write straight into HubSpot contacts. The official WordPress plugin had more than 200,000 active installs.

Cons: the legacy v2 embed script was by far the heaviest loader we measured. Styling embedded forms with your own CSS needs Marketing Hub or Content Hub Professional or Enterprise, and the page's domain must be added as a trusted site domain or submissions are filtered as spam.

8. Formstack: for teams already on Formstack

Formstack offers JavaScript, iframe and lightbox embeds; its JavaScript embed picks up form changes without new code.

Cons: there is no free plan, only a 14-day trial, and Forms starts at $83 a month billed annually. Formstack says two JavaScript embeds on one page are not supported, and the Formstack plugin in the WordPress.org directory was last updated in 2019.

9. WPForms and Gravity Forms: skip embedding on WordPress

If the site is WordPress, a native plugin renders the form in your theme's HTML with no iframe, so it inherits your styles and resizes like any content. WPForms Lite is free in the WordPress.org directory with more than 5 million active installs; paid tiers start at $49.50 for the first year and $99 on renewal. Gravity Forms has no free version and starts at $59 a year for one site.

Cons: entries live in your database, so backups, spam filtering, email deliverability and plugin updates are your job. Conversational one-question-at-a-time forms and hosted share links are not what these tools are built for.

Should you use an iframe or the JavaScript embed?

Use the vendor's JavaScript embed when you can. It is what makes auto-height and URL parameter forwarding possible, because only a script on your page can read the page's URL and talk to the frame. A bare iframe is the fallback for site builders or security policies that block third-party scripts: it works everywhere, but it has a fixed height and sees no UTM parameters unless you add them to its src by hand.

Do embedded forms slow down your website?

Somewhat, and the loader is the smaller part. On 28 September 2026 the loaders we measured ranged from about 4 KB compressed (Fillout, Zunoform) to about 15 KB (Typeform, Tally), with HubSpot's legacy v2 script at about 200 KB. The form inside the iframe adds more, but loads separately.

Two habits help more than picking the lightest vendor: load the script with async, and for forms far down a page use a popup or a lazy-loading option (Typeform's lazy setting, for example) so the form loads only when needed.

How to embed a form on your website and keep UTM tracking

These steps work for any tool above that forwards URL parameters.

01

Add hidden fields

Create hidden fields named utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign (or whatever your links use) in the form's settings.

02

Pick the embed mode

Inline for a dedicated contact or quote page; popup or slider for a call-to-action button; full page for a landing page.

03

Copy the JavaScript snippet, not the bare iframe

Only the script can read the host page's URL. Turn on the vendor's parameter option if it is opt-in (Typeform, Fillout, Paperform).

04

Paste it into your site

On WordPress, use a Custom HTML block; in Webflow, Squarespace or Wix, use their embed or code element.

05

Set the height

Enable auto-resize if the tool has it; otherwise set a height that fits the longest step on mobile.

06

Test with a tagged URL

Open your page with ?utm_source=test, submit, and confirm the value is on the response. Our UTM builder makes tagged links.

Where Zunoform fits, and who should not choose it

Zunoform fits sites that want popup, slider and side-tab embeds from one small script, with UTM parameters flowing into hidden fields and on to Google Sheets, Zapier or webhooks, plus partial responses and logic on the free plan. Do not choose it if you need auto-resizing inline embeds (Fillout, Tally, Typeform or Jotform), an official WordPress plugin (Jotform or HubSpot), unlimited free responses (Tally), or forms stored inside WordPress (WPForms or Gravity Forms).

Questions people ask

What is the best embedded form builder?

For most sites, Fillout: on 28 September 2026 it offered four embed modes, auto-resizing, URL parameter inheritance and a light loader on a free plan with 1,000 responses a month. Typeform has the most embed modes and an SDK, Tally is best for unlimited free submissions, and WPForms or Gravity Forms suit WordPress sites that want forms stored locally.

How do I embed a form on my website?

Build the form in your form tool, open its share or embed settings, choose inline, popup, slider or full page, and copy the code. Paste it into your page's HTML, or into a Custom HTML block in WordPress or an embed element in Webflow, Squarespace or Wix. Then test on mobile and submit one response.

Can an embedded form capture UTM parameters?

Yes, if the embed forwards the host page's URL parameters. Fillout, Tally, Paperform and Zunoform's JavaScript embed do this, and Typeform does when you set transitiveSearchParams. The form needs hidden fields with matching names. A plain iframe cannot read the page URL, so add parameters to its src yourself.

Do embedded forms work on WordPress?

Yes. Paste the vendor's JavaScript snippet into a Custom HTML block, or use an official plugin where one exists: Jotform and HubSpot both have maintained plugins in the WordPress.org directory. For forms stored in your own database, a native plugin such as WPForms or Gravity Forms avoids embedding entirely.

Why does my embedded form have a scrollbar?

The frame is shorter than the form. Turn on the tool's auto-resize option if it has one: Fillout's dynamic resize, Tally's dynamic height, Typeform's autoResize or Jotform's JavaScript embed. Otherwise raise the height in the embed code until the longest step fits on a phone, or switch to a popup or full-page embed.

Is an iframe embed bad for SEO?

Google says it tries to associate framed content with the page that contains it but does not guarantee it, so do not rely on form questions to help a page rank. That rarely matters for a form. Put the text you want indexed on the page around the embed, and load the embed script with async so it does not delay the rest of the page.
