Zunoform vs Microsoft Forms,
without the spin
We make Zunoform, so you know which way we lean. What we can promise: every Microsoft Forms number below came off their own pricing page on the date shown, and the section about where they beat us is real.
The short version
If you are inside a Microsoft 365 tenant and surveying your own people, use Microsoft Forms. It costs nothing beyond a licence you already pay for, allows up to 5,000,000 responses per form, includes branching logic, and embeds anywhere in Microsoft 365. Zunoform is the better choice at the point the form leaves the building: when it needs to look like your brand rather than Microsoft's, take a payment, book a meeting, or run on your own domain. Those are things Microsoft Forms does not do at any price.

Where Microsoft Forms wins
Leaving this out would make the rest of the page worthless.
- Inside a Microsoft 365 tenant, Forms is free at the margin and the ceiling is enormous: up to 5,000,000 responses per form for business and education accounts, against 5,000 a month on our $14.99 plan. If everyone you are collecting from already has a work or school account, we cannot beat that on price and there is no argument to make.
- The tenant plumbing is the real product. Results open in Excel, forms embed in SharePoint, OneNote, Teams tabs, Sway, and PowerPoint, polls run live inside Teams meetings, and Power Automate handles the workflow. None of that exists on our side.
- Governance comes included. Forms can be restricted to your organization or to named users and groups, admins can turn Forms off tenant-wide from the Microsoft 365 admin center, data for European tenants is stored in Europe, and Microsoft states Forms is GDPR compliant and meets FERPA and BAA protection standards. Zunoform offers no HIPAA BAA at all, and no SSO or SOC 2 report.
- Branching logic, quizzes with automatic grading and comments, multilingual forms, and co-authoring are available on every plan including education — not held back for an upgrade the way most builders hold back logic.
Pick Microsoft Forms if: your organization already pays for Microsoft 365, your respondents are colleagues or students with work or school accounts, and you need volume and IT governance rather than design control, payments, or a booking field.
Where Microsoft Forms frustrates people
- On a free personal Microsoft account you get 200 responses per form. A paid consumer Microsoft 365 subscription raises that to 1,000. The five-million ceiling belongs to business and education tenants only, so the headline number is not the one most individuals actually get.
- Branding is effectively fixed. Microsoft's own service description footnote reads that customization for branding is limited and the user can only change the image. There is no custom domain, no CSS, and no way to remove Microsoft's chrome from a form you send to customers.
- There are no payments. No payment question, no Stripe or PayPal field, nothing to sell with. An order form, a paid registration, or a deposit is out of scope.
- There is no booking question. Scheduling lives in a separate Microsoft 365 app, so a form that ends in "pick a time" means sending people somewhere else. Zunoform has a native scheduler question with Google and Outlook calendar sync and a database constraint preventing double-booking.
- No public Forms API is documented. Automation runs through Power Automate, which pulls you further into the licence rather than out toward whatever you already use.
Where Zunoform is the better pick
Nobody outgrows Microsoft Forms on volume. They outgrow it on control. The pattern is consistent: a form that started internal now goes to customers, and it still looks like a Microsoft form on a Microsoft URL, with no logo beyond an image swap, no way to charge anyone, and no booking field. On a free personal account there is a second wall at 200 responses per form that surprises people who assumed Forms was unlimited.
Zunoform vs Microsoft Forms FAQ
How many responses can a Microsoft Form collect?
It depends on the account. Microsoft's limits page gives up to 200 responses per form for free personal Microsoft accounts, up to 1,000 for paid personal accounts, up to 5,000,000 for Microsoft 365 business and education accounts, and up to 50,000 for GCC High and DoD tenants. All account types get up to 400 forms plus 400 polls, with up to 200 questions per form. Some older Microsoft pages still quote 50,000 for business and education; the current limits page says 5,000,000.
Is Microsoft Forms free?
Yes, with a free personal Microsoft account — capped at 200 responses per form. The higher limits and the tenant features come with a Microsoft 365 licence. Forms is bundled into Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, and Premium, the enterprise and education plans, and consumer Microsoft 365; Business Basic is $7.00 per user per month paid yearly in USD.
Can Microsoft Forms take payments?
No. There is no payment question type in Microsoft Forms. Zunoform has payment fields that run on your own Stripe or PayPal keys with no platform cut, on the $14.99 plan — including per-option amounts driven by an earlier answer, with totals recomputed on the server at checkout.
Can I remove Microsoft branding from a form?
Not meaningfully. Microsoft's service description states that customization for branding is limited and the user can only change the image, and there is no custom domain option. Zunoform removes all Zunoform branding at $14.99 a month and serves forms from your own domain at $24.99.
Does Microsoft Forms have conditional logic?
Yes. Branching is listed as available across small business, enterprise, education, and government plans, and it is one of the things Forms does not hold back for an upgrade. Zunoform also includes conditional logic on every plan, plus quiz scoring with letter-grade bands evaluated on the server.
